6. Fan Service Items
Fan service is pretty popular these days, with many movies committing to shared universes, TV shows often referencing fandom memes and a general sense of synergy between franchises.
You can argue all day about whether this the creators and writers having fun with the property, or executives going for product placement and cash grabs and never get an answer. The fact is, when it’s done right, fans tend to like it.
It is called fan service, at the end of the day.
Nintendo, thanks in large parts to bringing together so many franchises again and again for Smash, has a bit of a reputation. Considering how many games they either make in house or own large stakes in though, they could do much more.
Nothing major; we don’t really need Pikachu, Diddy Kong and Yoshi turning up as random villagers and stealing the spotlight. There’s definitely room for some little touches in there though.
Wallpaper, furniture, figurines, clothing; all could be kitted out with prints or Nintendo references. Kirby, Zelda, Mario, Pokémon... the list goes on and on of great, recognisable Nintendo properties which could feature in a cute but minor way.
