4. The Weapons and Gadgets
Batman never uses a gun, but that doesn't mean us gamers can't. Although the story mode of Arkham Origins relies heavily on hand-to-hand combat, the multiplayer puts guns front and center. Players controlling Joker and Bane thugs will have two basic gun classes to chose from: assault rifles and shotguns. As the match progresses, players will be able to gain access to various gang-specific gadgets. Members of the Joker gang will be able to take control of a remotely-operated explosive blimp which they can use against Bane and his group even or Batman and Robin. Bane's thugs can use a sort of ultra-sonic pulse which damages nearby enemies and their equipment. These are only two examples of the many that will be available. The trailer also features Bane's flying turret which automatically aims and fires upon members of the Joker gang. To even-out the playing field, all players will get a version of detective mode which will vary slightly depending which group you are in, with Batman and Robin's being the most advanced. The Joker and Bane characters have a completely different array of gadgets, but we'll get into that later. So far it seems like the criminals are having all the fun, but Batman and Robin have a few tricks up their freshly pressed sleeves (thanks Alfred). Batman will have access to all of the gadgets that players can use in the story mode. This includes the newly introduced remote batclaw. This upgrade allows the always-familiar batclaw to attach to one object (or person), shoot out a separate hook and sink it's claws into whatever you tell it to and then pull the two objects (or people) closer together. This can be used to create walkways where there are none, attach two goons to each other or even preform an inverted takedown from a vantage point across the room. This is one of several new gadgets and gizmos that the Bat will get throughout the story and use in multiplayer. Whether it be for a good-for-nothing low-life or for the Caped Crusader himself, weapons and gadgets are a key part of multiplayer in Arkham Origins. Using them is the fun part, but unlocking them can be fun too. Although there will likely be a leveling system in the multiplayer, gamers need not depend on it. Several of the more important unlocks can be gotten throughout the single player mode. This also includes customizations for your character and we'll get into that next.
