Assassin's Creed 2017: 10 Time Periods We Want To See

6. Iberian Reconquista

For those not familiar with this period as I was to be entirely honest, the Iberian Reconquista was the time when the Spanish and Portuguese forces reclaimed the Iberian Peninsula from Islamic forces.

The period spanned many centuries and is one of the most interesting times when reading into it. Not only does it function well for the idea of an Assassin’s Creed story, but there are a great deal of historical events regarding the Templar Order from that time, which tends to be the main reason why the whole period is so interesting.

When the Templar Order was destroyed by Pope Clement V the Portuguese King reinstated them as the Order of Christ for their aid in the Reconquista. After Assassin’s Creed Rogue, the Templar order is easily one of the more interesting points in the series, and playing as a weakened order in Medieval Portugal and Spain building yourself up, could be a welcome change from the underdog Assassin’s storyline.

It could also function as the beginning of the modern day Templar Order and give some much needed backstory.

And of course, there is the range of architecture that you must consider, because Medieval Portugal and Spain are chock full of interesting places to climb. Lastly, with the new Assassin’s Creed movie taking place largely within medieval Spain, it would be a suitably interesting tie in.
