Although the new setting will no doubt be well received by many fans, there'll also be no shortage of people wondering how it's going to affect what's quickly becoming a core element of Assassin's Creed: naval combat. After all, the Greeks aren't exactly known for their prowess on the seas, and the likes of Athens and Sparta are pretty dense cities lacking expansive bodies of water.

Though the setting may not seem that well adjusted for a major focus on naval warfare, there is still scope for Ubisoft to expand on this core feature. The rumours so far point towards the sequel taking cues from Black Flag, particularly the focus on exploring the unknown and surviving on the high seas.

Ubisoft might have already dropped a hint about this themselves, as the game's title itself could be a reference to the story of Odysseus, and his return to Greece across a seemingly never-ending sea following the Trojan War.
