Assassin's Creed Origins: 10 Past Mistakes Ubisoft Can't Repeat
3. No Futuristic Plot (Unless It's Genuinely Important)
While it's always been a rather contentious staple of the franchise, the futuristic plot that acts as a wrap-around for the entire series at least made sense during the first few releases.
Up until Assassin's Creed 3, it was clear that the developers were attempting to spin an epic science-fiction tale where events in the past dictated the future, following the same characters and plots over a handful of games.
Unfortunately, ever since the third title hit shelves this futuristic sci-fi setting has posed a huge problem for the franchise. Not wanting to make it the central focus but still feeling obliged to include it, the last couple of games have seen half-hearted attempts to connect the adventures of the historical assassins to the game's future setting.
Going forward, if the developers aren't going to make these portions of the games significant then they should get rid of them entirely. The sci-fi setting at this point feels like a hangover, and doesn't need to be included at all if it's not important.
