Assassin's Creed: 10 Times The Templars Were Right
5. The Pazzi Pointing Out The Medici Hypocrisy - Assassin's Creed II
Arguably the questline that really helped launch the popularity of the best Assassin's Creed game in the franchise, everything about The Pazzi Conspiracy is iconic at this point. The real-world historical accuracy and tie-ins to Ezio's origins made for a great combination, and the original trio of Vieri, Francesco and Jacopo were all so delightfully killable to players of the game.
What helped as well as the whole storyline being so relatively simple to understand. No mysterious artefacts (yet), no long-lost hidden temples or obscure prophecies, just a nice and simple plot to overthrow a powerful ruling family and take over a city for their nefarious goals.
However, there's undeniably something unsettling about the way in which the Medici family flaunted their wealth around the poor in the city, and certainly something deeply unsettling about what Lucrezia Borgia claims happened to the remaining innocent Pazzi family members following the failed conspiracy in Assassin's Creed Brotherhood.
Contemporary historians have also began to challenge how much of a 'Golden Age' the Medici reign of Florence really was, and some even go so far as to say that The Pazzi Conspiracy was far more of a pushing back against a ultra-powerful family than just a resentful group of traitors striking out.
