Assassin's Creed: Ranking All The Assassins From Worst To Best
3. Edward Kenway
Imagine being one of those people who said that a pirate-king as an Assassin wouldn't work when Black Flag was first announced.
A true pirate in every sense of the word, Edward isn't driven by grand plans or ancient ideologies, just cold hard cash. He set sail for the West Indies with the goal of ridding himself of poor paying jobs and helped set up the Republic of Nassau, a small settlement built around the idea of men being able to govern themselves as opposed to answering to any King or Lord.
Though he is far from the most devout member of the Brotherhood on this list, Edward is easily amongst the most memorable and fun protagonists the franchise has ever served up.
His quips, wisecracks and lightheartedness makes him a colourful and charismatic individual but, unlike the likes of Jacob on this list, there's a real sense of strategic intelligence that Edward has to his character, especially when it comes to how he compares to his pirate brethren.
Edward goes from being a brash and uncaring individual, to someone who has a real sense of the bigger picture around him. His arc is one of the most polished in the franchise, and one of the more touching and emotion-driven ones at the same time.
