While the bickering brother and sister with contrasting personalities is nothing new, it makes perfect sense in the context of the plot. Throughout the game, Jacob's reckless behaviour constantly causes him to leave chaos in his wake, leaving Evie to clean up the mess.

Meanwhile, Evie's discreet and reserved nature brings about teasing from her twin brother. While all of this seems relatively lighthearted early on, towards the end of the game, it causes to the two to have a major falling out, vowing never to work with each other again. This makes it all the more touching when, at the very end, they put all of this aside to fight as one to accomplish their goal as siblings.

The fact that the pair are trained warriors oftentimes makes it easy to forget that they're both just twenty-one years of age. For all intents and purposes, they're still just kids. Sure, in 1868 being twenty-one carried a much different weight than it does today, but the lack of maturity (especially on Jacob's part) definitely shows, and Assassin's Creed: Syndicate serves as a very touching coming of age story.

Moreover, you have Evie's cliched but endearing romantic feelings for fellow assassin, Henry Green, and the conflicts she faces having always been taught to keep personal feelings and business separate.

Plus, Jacob's fascinating, toxic relationship with Maxwell Roth, who was originally thought to simply be another adversary until he and Jacob bond over their mutual interest in mischief, eventually leading to vague but apparent attraction, (Jacob being canonically bisexual.) Jacob is having fun until the sobering realization that Roth is an absolute madman, and when he eventually has to assassinate the man, it makes for a bittersweet and uncomfortable moment.
