Assassin's Creed: Syndicate Reviews - 12 Shocking Critical Reactions You Need To See

9. The Much-Touted Return To Modern-Day Stuff Is Pointless

"The present-day storyline returns in Syndicate, but it doesn€™t go anywhere. It lacks focus and direction, which has been the case since Assassin€™s Creed III. You won€™t even recognize the characters involved unless you are into the expanded fiction of the Assassin€™s Creed universe (with a couple pleasant exceptions). Thankfully, this muddled content is rare and brief, so it doesn€™t distract from what Syndicate does well." Joe Juba, Game Informer
Well this is disappointing. Ubisoft did mention a few months back that we'd see a return to the modern day elements, but every reviewer has concluded that such scenarios and cutscenes are forgettable at best. With the story behind Jacob and Evie being so strong and the political intrigue of overthrowing London being so engaging, there's little room to take a break and return to Abstergo in the future. That's a real shame, as personally I was always happy to follow Desmond - or anyone, really - on their quest to become the ultimate present-day super-assassin, yet it seems we'll have to wait even longer to get anything close to 'Assassin's Creed: New York City' in a more modern setting.
