Assassin's Creed V: 5 Things We Know So Far

4. Gameplay

There are some things we can expect as standard from an Assassin's Creed game €“like scrambling over the tops of buildings whilst wearing a white hoodie and taking out guards with a hidden blade. That much is a given, but there are other elements which while typical, have been chopped and changed over the franchise. For example, will AC5 see a return to the brotherhood of Assassins at the player's control to summon during the course of the game? It wasn't included in AC4 as the development team wanted to force the player into having to work out how to get through scenarios on their own €“ that and it avoided an awkward explanation about how ten assassins could suddenly appear on a random island in the middle of the Caribbean. Given that AC5 is being developed by a different team to AC4, and thinking about the possible settings, it's probable that we'll see this element return. Something we do know about the gameplay that links also back to the location is another quote from AC4 lead writer Darby McDevitt. He said that Ubisoft had invested heavily in the motion system for the ship combat seen in AC3 and AC4, and don't want to see it go to waste €“ but also stated that it wouldn't be used on a boat. This immediately makes you think that therefore the game won't include oceanic exploration. But what else could this system be applied to? Zeppelins? Submarines (although technically that would be a "boat")? Or will this be seen briefly much like the Da Vinci machines seen in Assassin's Creed II: Brotherhood? One of the interesting points what we could see come up in AC5 is the balance between the missions we hate and love €“ after all, the feedback sections at the end of each main mission were almost certainly accumulated by Ubisoft to be considered for future games - there was even a poll run by Ubisoft last December. In it, suggested components included more stealth features, more assassination missions, more historical characters, the ability to enter more houses and buildings and a changing city as the player progresses through the game. Will any of these come to light in AC5?
