Assassin's Creed V: 5 Things We Know So Far

2. The Protagonist

With the exception of Aveline de Grandpré, all of the main character designs in the Assassin's Creed series have followed a similar pattern. Each have had the hidden blade and worn a hooded white garment of some description €“ either a robe or a jacket. So while we can expect the new protagonist to be dressed in a similar manner, each character has had a unique weapon set and so we can assume that the new lead will also have some weapons that have not been seen before. With that in mind, the internet found this image a few days ago from an official source:
It is a leaked image that was supposedly taken at Ubisoft's offices in Montreal, Canada. As you can see, the character is wearing a black assassin's robe with an extended hidden blade. Or at least we think it is a hidden blade, as there seems to be some discussion over whether or not it is in fact a revolver. Unfortunately due to the low resolution of the image there is no clear way of telling. Obviously the clear thing that makes this character different from all past assassin leads is the black outfit. Although in some cases you could customise the characters in game to wear some very dark outfits (such as Connor's dark blue denim attire in AC3), they have always appeared in promotional shots wearing the white outfits. So why black? This may not be a ninja-esque idea as Ubisoft have already ruled out Japan as a setting. But it simply may be linked directly to an industrial revolution setting. Those were rather dirty times €“ not a time period that you would want to be running around in a bright white robe as it wouldn't stay white for very long. Even the Royal Navy have had this same problem in the past €“ one class of ships used diesel engines so dirty that they made the hulls black rather than constantly have to re-paint them. If the character is going to be running around in a very sooty industrial period them a white robe simply isn't practical and this image makes us all think that the suggested time setting is even more likely.
