Assassin's Creed: Victory - 10 Locations Far Better Than London

8. Feudal Japan

Samurai, ninjas, throwing stars, stealth and cool outfits - what other reason do you need to visit historical Japan as a location? Perhaps the most requested location by fans for several years now, Ubisoft is apparently not listening to the public's desire for a Japan-centric AC game. You can imagine it's penciled in for somewhere down the pipeline, but - for now you can only dream of what it would be like to be a real ninja Assassin. Given how last year's Unity brought the focus back (slightly) onto stealth, a game set in this environment would be perfect for a really serious sneaking-centric sequel. The only problem here is the lack of large buildings to climb; perhaps a return to a similar location like the Frontier in AC III with plenty of forests interspersed with Japanese towns in between? Ubisoft have actually addressed this, but sadly they're not totally sold on the idea, saying that the location is too familiar to gamers. Speaking a couple of years back, creative director Alex Hutchinson said:
"You could always do it, but the point I was trying to make was that in the broad strokes and scale of history, that's a theme that's been well-mined in videogames," he explained. "So, Assassin's Creed is one of those games that can take time periods or corners of the world and make them cool, fun, new and refreshing. "Feudal Japan would work as an Assassin's game, for sure, but I feel like it would start to look like 'oh, have I played this?' You know what I mean - 'oh, I've been a ninja before, I've been a samurai before'.
They're missing the point here; everyone wants to be a ninja or a samurai in AC - it simply has to happen.
