6. An Interesting Protagonist
Who was the last AC protagonist you actually enjoyed playing as? It certainly wasn't Connor, Arno or even Edward Kenway after his introductory sequence. When the series launched you were put in the shoes of Desmond, and with him being the main thread that held all the other ancestor stories together, in theory everything he experienced in the Animus should've remained secondary until the abilities of his forefathers bled through to himself - whereby we'd all of gotten that fancy AC: New York trilogy-capper everyone was expecting. Instead we've been thrown into the shoes of everyone from Italian rapscallions to plundering pirates and French nobles - all of them having the 'Star Wars prequel problem' of not having a decent entry point for you, the non-rooftop-hopping human. Ezio came closest but even his transition to the ways of the Order were a little convenient upon reflection - was it not a little strange that him and his brother just happen to be super-athletes who already treat their city as a playground? Regardless of the events of the story itself, the person we're embodying should reflect some of the inquisitions and first-foot mistakes of the player - that way regardless of how crazy and sci-fi tinged they want to take the story, it can all be filtered through a character who's reacting to everything like we are.
