Batman: Arkham 2017 - 10 Perfect Ways To Continue The Franchise

9. Another Prequel

A sequel to 2013's Arkham Origins seems beyond inevitable at this point, what with Warner Bros. Montréal confirmed to be working on a DC project for the current-gen of consoles and all. This can only be a good thing for fans who have an insatiable appetite for all things Arkham related, as well as for Batman as a whole - even if the studio is still yet to win over some stalwart Rocksteady loyalists. It makes sense to continue the prequel theme, given how little we know of Gotham before the events of Arkham Asylum, along with the fact that Origins left us with an ending pretty open-ended in nature. There's simply so much to explore in these 'lost' years, but actually coming up with innovative ways to do so may be easier said than done - especially when the franchise is so close to stagnating as it is. In many ways, Batman's formative years are far more intriguing than his later ones, as WB Montreal have so many different opportunities to reinterpret, reimagine, and redefine countless characters, storylines, and locales for the Arkhamverse's early days. Rocksteady's trilogy undeniably benefitted from placing Bats at the pinnacle of his career, but there's something infinitely more compelling about seeing the beginnings of the character retold in new and exciting ways.
