Batman: Arkham Insurgency - 11 Things It Must Learn From Asylum

10. Combat Areas That Ramp Up In Complexity

Mostly down to the fact we were being introduced to this combat system for the first time, Arkham Asylum goes from basic one-on-four starter rooms, to a Titan duel, gun-toting enemies, snipers and later, baton and knife-wielders.

The latter force you to unlearn how you've used the counter button previously, holding it until a specific point rather than jabbing it in-time with a screen prompt, yet this approach to combat wasn't carried forward. Once you'd mastered combat in Asylum, you were sorted for City, Origins and Knight. Yes, we got additional moves that could be factored in like Arkham Knight's environmental attacks, but nothing that fundamentally shook up how we fought.

Moreover, Arkham Asylum had this ramp-up in enemy numbers and tactics across its entire game-time, really letting you feel like you were getting deeper into the Asylum and Joker's goon-ranks, alongside learning how to fight like the Batman we'd watched and read about for years.

Give us a progression to what is easily one of the best third-person action combat systems of all time, not just an excuse to play the same way for the whole game.
