Batman: Arkham Knight - 10 Perfect Ideas For The Next Batman Game

10. Look To The Past

Despite the lukewarm reaction to WB Montreal's tenure, a sequel to Arkham Origins seems like the most plausible avenue at this point. Sure, the line got off to a rough start, but there's plenty of room for improvement. WB Montreal's take on the Arkhamverse depicted Batman's first encounter with the breed of supervillainy that would eventually overtake Gotham, and the continuing theme of escalation is a solid foundation from which to shape the prequel series going forward. Considering the numerous callbacks and references to The Long Halloween peppered throughout the series, an adaptation of the classic arc seems like the best possible avenue to explore the Dark Knight's struggles with Gotham's transition from mob-haven to supervillain-infested madhouse. And given The Long Halloween's focus on detective work, emphasizing the investigative aspect of the series is one way for the Origins line to differentiate itself from Rocksteady's sprawling series. Another is the fact that the nature of the storyline wouldn't exactly call for the usual "citywide evacuation" contrivance to clear out the streets, so it'd be a great opportunity for players to finally control the Dark Knight in a more traditional superhero setting complete with bustling streets, rather than the all-out wars that Bat-fans have become accustomed to over the years. WB Montreal definitely have their work cut out for them if they're hoping to pick up the baton, but I rather enjoyed Origins so I honestly believe they're capable of pumping out some quality work if given the chance.
