Batman: Arkham Knight - 10 Perfect Ways To Kill Batman
5. Converting The Arkham Knight
The Arkham Knight is a Rocksteady creation who is all but shrouded in mystery. Despite knowing that his or her's roots are firmly embedded within Arkham Asylum and the wider Arkham lore, there is very little in the way of information surrounding the character's motivations. That said, it is quite obvious that the Arkham Knight is extremely enthusiastic about declaring an all out war on Batman, and this can only have occurred as a consequence of personal conflict. Without speculating too much in regards to the true identity of the Arkham Knight, the sheer tenacity that the antagonist holds in their mission to take down Batman speaks volumes to illuminate a clear tragic backstory. Like many other Batman villains before him, it could be that Rocksteady are going to depict the character as being sympathetic in nature - another soul that Batman hopes he can save. If that is the case, and Batman underestimates what the Knight is capable of, then the result could ultimately be Bruce ceding his life to the barrel of a gun. It's easy to forget that ultimately Bruce's intentions as Batman aren't just to avenge, but to save as well. Given the choice between two options, it's easy to assume that the Caped Crusader would elect for the latter rather than the former, which could consequently lead to a death tragic like no other.
WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. After graduating with a First-Class Honours in History from Northumbria University in 2017 (where he won a prize for a totally killer dissertation on the Watergate years), Ewan took on the role of Comics Editor at WhatCulture and quickly developed WhatCulture Comics into one of the biggest superhero-focused channels on YouTube. He followed this with a brief hiatus at Screen Rant in 2021, where he worked across the Gaming and Film sections as a writer and editor, before returning to WhatCulture as a Senior Content Producer / Presenter in 2023. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well.
In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
