4. The GCPD
One of the big 'what if' stories of the Bat mythos has been around the idea of Batman being on the run from the GCPD. As a lot of Bat-fans will know, in his early years Bruce had to operate outside of the GCPD's approval due to the fact that the department was corrupt. However, despite the amiable relationship Batman shares with Commissioner Gordon, the two are still on opposite sides of the law - but what would it take to make Batman go back to the top of Gotham's most wanted? This was explored rather well in an episode of The New Batman Adventures titled 'Over the Edge'. In that storyline Barbara Gordon dies whilst dressed as Batgirl, and the Commissioner (now inundated with grief) turns his attention to capturing or killing his once ally. It's an interesting relationship to turn on its head, and to see Batman contend with the GCPD would really up the ante of Knight's plot. It's very unlikely to happen, but if Gordon's actions in taking down Batman resulted in his death the ramifications it would have would be enormous.
