3. Where's The Arkham Knight's Development?
What do you know about the Arkham Knight - the most interesting villain there's been in a Batman canon since the Court of Owls' assassin in Scott Snyder's reboot? He's a guy, with some soldiers... who answers to Scarecrow and hasn't spoken - threatening eh? In the preluding comics he's written as someone who essentially monologues to himself, all "I'm gonna get you Batman!"-like, which really, really isn't what's needed when the tone for this is already so self-serious and gritty. The last major trailer elected to rebalance the villain hierarchy completely from the Knight-fronted screens beforehand, showing that although we're all working overtime to
figure out who's under the mask, it's Scarecrow who's the main 'big bad' in the game. So far unless you've been keeping up with the comics, you don't know anything more about the Knight than you did after the main announcement last year, but showing or mentioning him for even a second to tide those over who are actively enjoying playing the guessing game is a big missed opportunity. Instead, it makes you realise his role in this might be secondary to the rest, with a "You're the only Arkham Knight in Gotham, Batman"-style reveal coming at the close of the game.
