Batman: Arkham Knight - 8 Essential Things It Must Fix From City

2. The Boss Fights

The encounters Batman had with Scarecrow in Asylum are undoubtedly some of the finest, mind-melting boss fights in recent memory. They messed with your head, tested your reflexes and left you feeling satisfied, albeit with a tinge of incredulous confusion. The others are almost as good (apart from the somewhat disappointing finale with The Joker) but its sequel didn't raise the bar - it tripped over it. The vast majority of the boss fights in Arkham City (and boy, there's a lot of them) are forgettable and anti-climatic. You spend a good while chasing down The Penguin at the beginning of the game, yet in both times you face him he's disposed off with a quick punch. What's worse is that there are moments of brilliance scattered throughout the forgettable stuff. The fight against Mr. Freeze is mechanically brilliant, forcing you to actually think about ways you can use the environment against him. It's also tense as hell because Batman is easily killed here, forcing you to take a stealthy approach to move around the environment and meticulously plan your next attack. Mr. Freeze and the finale against Clayface are the highlights of City as far as boss fights are concerned. They make the other average bosses even more disappointing because they prove what Rocksteady are capable of when they put the effort in, so let's hope that they strive for quality over quantity with the bosses in Arkham Knight by giving us more like Freeze and less like Penguin.

When I'm not playing games, I'm probably either writing about them somewhere or singing stupid songs inspired by them. Or eating pizza.
