Batman: Arkham Knight - 8 Reasons It Should End The Franchise

1. A New IP Is More Exciting

Besides a wealth of commenters and DC fanboys wishing for Rocksteady to instead turn their talents to Superman following the Arkham trilogy, there's been scarce mention of where the developer goes after the completion of Knight - but that's probably partly due to the fact that the project's completion seems so far off at this point. However, with such a ridiculously talented group of individuals being the top of their respective field in everything from game design to scriptwriting and fan-relations, if they can take a page out of Bungie's book and break away from the series that made them, the idea of a completely new, franchise-less IP is much more tantalising prospect. Of course Rocksteady have built up one hell of a trusting rapport with the DC guys; so much so that another rumour doing the rounds is that they'll take on a Suicide Squad game, one that would let them ironically take the one good thing from Origins (Deathstroke) and let you control him instead. Granted nothing's been said, and thanks to the release date being so far away - along with the nature of any entertainment industry forever-connoting the adage of 'never say never' - we won't know anything until a few months after Arkham Knight finally hits shelves next year. Until then though, courtesy of an IGN interview, in the words of Dax Ginn (the Rocksteady chap with the best name in the world); "We€™ve done all we can do here [...] it€™s kind of time for us to walk away from it." Let's hope it stays that way. How do you feel about Warner Bros. meddling with the franchise and the Origins instalment? Are more sequels okay as long as they're recognised as spin-offs from other developers? Let us know in the comments!
