Batman: Arkham Knight - 8 Reasons The Joker Should Stay Dead

2. He€™s Headlined Three Games Already

It's already been mentioned that The Joker is Batman's greatest and most iconic arch-nemesis. No one will dispute that fact, but it simply gets tiring seeing the same villains headlining the same franchises. Not even Christopher Nolan used the Joker twice, and even if Heath Ledger had not died, he still probably wouldn't have used the character but rather have given him a cameo appearance, much like Cillian Murphy's Scarecrow traditionally got in The Dark Knight Trilogy. Additionally, there isn't a superhero franchise in history that repeatedly uses the same villains in subsequent films. What makes stories centered on superheroes so captivating in the first place is how different villains pose different moral and physical dilemmas to the character, how the hero proceeds to deal with it, and how to inevitably overcome it. Reaching back into an old bag of tricks simply isn't that exciting, and so the cinema counterparts of superhero lore choose to spice the stories up by adapting new baddies and challenging our modern day Greek Gods in new and interesting ways.
