2. Under-cooked Characters
This is probably my biggest fear for this game. When I heard Origins will have eight people out to kill Batman, I was initially excite,d but now that I had time to reflect, this could be very bad for the story, especially since this game will follow its predecessors by making these events occur in
one night. If they chose to increase this time limit, not only would it solve this problem but it would also add a change to the good, but repetitive formula. But, since it's the same, the problem still exists. Now the danger is in Gotham where citizens are supposed to be out and about and that can make or break the game. If there are going to be a lot of side characters causing mayhem, we need to see the people panicking. We need to feel the urgency so we can see Batman become the hero he is meant to be. We need to see that strong hatred for crime Batman has grow. If this doesn't happen, the side missions will come off as pure filler. See, in Arkham Asylum and City, the setting themselves addressed any development issues. In Asylum, the location was a small island, where Joker was the main focus and large numbers of innocent people weren't at stake. Well, there was the poisoning of the water system and in City the blood in the hospitals was poisoned, but I that was more indirect and the urgency wasn't really there. But back to what I was saying; in City, it takes place in a prison cut off from the main city, so innocent lives aren't at stake as well. It also eliminated the need to focus on all the criminals, since they were already in jail and only posed a threat to themselves. There's also the fact that time this took place handled the development, as well. Batman has been Batman for quite some time, just like the Joker and Bane have already established their place in the rogue gallery. All the relationships have been developed. That's not to mention that if WB decide to put relatively unknown characters like Copperhead as the killers, the players would want some background. Just a quick little dialogue or cinematic will suffice, but I would hate for them to just be random hit-men.
