7. World War 2 Is The Setting

While the Bad Company 3 game is allegedly taking place in the Cold War, the next instalment in the franchise, following in the footsteps of Battlefield 1, will apparently take players to the trenches of World War 2.

It's an interesting choice to say the least. The previous title worked so well because WW1 was such a ripe setting ready to be explored, never really being touched upon in the medium before. The second World War on the other hand has been done to death, and although Call of Duty enjoyed massive success by returning there last year, EA's shooter might be seen as simply following the crowd.

There's no doubt the game itself will utilise the historical period well, but moving into that era inherently isn't as exciting as jumping into WW1. It's far too familiar, and it's not the only horse in town staking a claim to the setting, but if there's one franchise that can make it feel fresh, it's Battlefield.
