Grand Theft Auto IV (2008 various platforms)
When GTA IV was first launched it received a number of awards and held the Gaming World Record of the
Most Successful Entertainment Launch of All Time (since beaten by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3). GTA IV was set in 2008 and was the first game in the series where the main character was from Europe. Niko Bellic, from Yugoslavia arrived in the United States to find the traitor of his army unit. The plot of this game is much more in-depth than previous GTA games and is also the first GTA game that allowed the player to change the plot by making certain choices. The themes of GTA IV were rather different when compared to the previous games. As this is the only game where the main character is not from America, there is a significant focus towards the attitudes and state of American culture.
