One shootout in a graveyard eventually lands you in a church, where a tank fires at you and transforms into one of the giant mechs seen earlier in the game, leading to a ridiculous sequence in which you need to both fend off soldiers and blow up the mech before you can move from the church. The futuristic robot juxtaposed with the rustic church design and period soldiers creates an incredibly jarring feel, which was no doubt exactly the intention. Whether it's cool or just weird for its own sake, though, will be up to the player to decide...
15. Zombie Soldiers!
Cue more trippy sequences and more exposition-laden yet infuriatingly vague flashback scenes, before you eventually learn that the much-discussed "Frozen Forest" is a safe place for test subjects who rejected DNI experiments and died, but Sarah of course believes it to be real. We're then thrown back to a WWII battlefield which spawns a giant tentacle tree out of nowhere, and before long, you're being attacked by zombie soldiers. This goes on for several minutes, and it's unclear whether you're supposed to let them kill you or not, but after a while of fighting them off, the nightmarish sequence finally ends when you shoot Sarah, killing her both in the sequence and in real life.
