Breath Of The Wild 2: 5 Things We Want (And 5 We Don’t)
8. Do: Better Characterisation For Zelda
Gaming certainly has a whole royal family when it comes to princesses. The likes of Peach, Kitana, Daphne and more are all beloved figures in the industry - for the most part.
But, Princess Zelda, the sealer of Calamity Ganon, peacemaker with twilight, reborn goddess Hylia and even more titles than Daenerys Targaryen, is undoubtedly one of the most iconic.
Despite that, there's still some work that should be done on her.
Nintendo has tried to help Zelda stray from the damsel in distress archetype a few times to varying degrees of success.
However, Breath of the Wild worked some wonders when it came to making her more three-dimensional. Her awkward and nerdy enthusiasm for knowledge was easily relatable, and the pressure put on her to fulfil her destiny was a captivating way to give her motive.
Still, this is only a stepping stone in the right direction, as her characterisation was still quite outdated, which wasn't helped by her overly passive voice acting. Breath of the Wild 2 should take the best aspects of her personality and apply some newfound agency in the plot, helping to make the best version of Zelda players have ever seen.
