Call Of Duty: Ghosts Review - Same Old Set-Pieces

2. But Can Aliens Save It?

Call Of Duty Ghosts 60178 Iterations of Call of Duty by Treyarch have traditionally featured a crowd pleasing Zombies mode that cooperatively pitted 1-4 players up against waves of zombies. The games by Infinity Ward have never featured anything remotely similar so they are technically treading new ground here. In a commendable move they also have not decided to completely extrapolate Zombies and shoehorn it into their own game, but rather approach their version from a creative direction. In this newly conceived mode titled Extinction, players will once again cooperatively band together, but this time they will be slaughtering filthy aliens with bulging glowing orange spots. I won€™t beat around the bush and will admit that Extinction plays like Zombies, but there are just enough tweaks and new ideas to inject some rejuvenation into what, so far, has been a pretty disappointing game. Essentially, one of the four players will lug around a crucial drill that will be placed against alien hives. The idea is to defend the drill and your teammates from the attacking aliens; rinse and repeat for 13 waves. Along the way you will be given challenges to complete for skill points that you can use to upgrade your character class. Similar to Zombies. you will also earn money as you kill the various types of aliens that can be spent on additional guns and traps such as electric fences. It can be quite entertaining with friends as you feverishly watch each other€™s back whilst trying to murder alien scum. I can€™t say for certain how much mileage you€™ll get out of it as I would personally probably be done upon witnessing the ending once, but there€™s no denying Extinction is the surprise highlight of the entire game.
