Although the next Call of Duty was probably too far along in development to be impacted that much by WW2, the success of the latest game may have influenced Treyarch's title in one major way. If reports are to be believed, then 2018's release will be dropping the wall-running, double-jumping combat of the futuristic COD games in favour of the classic boots-on-the-ground gameplay fans enjoy so much.

Treyarch arguably did the whole super-soldier thing the best out of the three developers on the franchise, but even then it could have been removed from their game entirely without losing much.

Despite Activision pushing this style of gameplay, none of the developers have ever really committed to using the new features to change things up, perhaps reflected most in the single-player stories that often limited the use of these additional powers as much as possible.

After WW2, it's obvious fans respond the most to boots-on-the-ground gunplay, and Activision are ensuring that Black Ops 4 stays true to that core philosophy.
