Call Of Duty: 9 Biggest Mistakes Activision Want You To Forget
1. Making Survival Mode PS4 Exclusive (Modern Warfare)
It's not even out yet, but this year's Modern Warfare is unsurprisingly causing ripples in the fan community and stealing headlines thanks to some dodgy decisions made behind the scenes.
The game was shaping up well, with a critically lauded beta and a return to a sub-franchise that fans have such affection for. In fact, Infinity Ward nor Activision could do any wrong until recently, when they were hit with a one-two punch that immediately caused a stink online.
First was the announcement that Survival Mode - a section of the Spec-Ops - would be a one-year timed exclusive for PS4 players. Sony's console has received content early before, but that usually maxed out at a month. One entire year - which would take fans well into the cycle for the next COD game - was viewed as being ridiculous.
One top of that came the leak that the microtransaction system was being tweaked to be even more aggressive than previously thought. Though loot boxes haven't officially been talked about, initially the rumours suggested that they'd function closer to those found in WW2. Them being in there at all wasn't ideal, but WW2's were balanced relatively well, and would have been a perfectly fine choice when it came to choosing the lesser of two evils.
That's all apparently out the window now though, and the Supply Drops are being re-tooled to be far closer to Black Ops 4's which, as mentioned, are goddamn terrible.
