Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3 - 10 Reasons The Series Should Return To World War 2
3. It Would Act As A Clean Break
Although the newest releases into the franchise boast that they're brand new experiences, the constant lingering reminder of Call of Duty 4 still hangs over them to this day. Because of how fondly remembered that game still is, every new entry into the series that still draws from that game - be it from specific weapons, perks, or even game modes - naturally has to act as a sort of spiritual successor. As a result, for as much as new kick-starts to the series like Advanced Warfare and Ghosts claim they're fresh-starts, they're still relying on the basic formula that Call of Duty 4 perfected. Even with the addition of futuristic tech, Activision rolled out new story lines and new features such as the exo-suit so slowly and so apprehensively that the newer games were never able to escape the series long baggage with a clean break. However, a return to World War 2 would demand a fresh start, as there's no way the setting would allow the franchise to continue including established weapons like the AK or killstreaks like the UAV. The historical location would allow Activision creative freedom to create a new Call of Duty experience entirely separate from the current games, and would give the franchise the ability to finally escape the baggage of constantly being compared to the games' most revered entries.
