Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 - 10 Past Mistakes Activision Can't Repeat

1. Keep The Plot Mysterious (But Don't Make It Confusing)

The Black Ops stories have always been the unsung heroes of the Call of Duty franchise. Sure, a lot of games throughout the series' long history have had pretty compelling narratives, but none have attempted to be as daring and as out-there as Treyarch's releases.

However, while they were defined on their unpredictability and their mysterious rug-pulling twists, the third game tried way too hard to deliver a story that kept players guessing, to the point where it just felt plain-old confusing and unsatisfying for the most part.

In order to win back the adoration fans had for these narratives and characters in the next game then, the devs need to return to the more grounded premises of the original Black Ops - or even World at War - rather than attempt to outdo themselves with more fantastical plot twists.

It's the stories themselves rather than the last-minute reveals that players loved so much about the earlier games, something Treyarch desperately needs to recognise going into this sequel.
