It's clear now that Activision had no idea just how big Call of Duty: WW2 was going to be. Sure, there was a groundswell of people who pined for a return to the formula of the classic COD games, but it was only once the title hit shelves that everyone realised just how important the boots-on-the-ground gameplay was to fans.

Consequently, once that title saved COD from it's regular post-Infinity Ward slump, both players and critics presumed that future COD games would also keep combat firmly rooted on the ground, and that's exactly what's happened, with BLOPS 4 dropping the previous instalment's jet pack-fuelled shootouts.

Obviously though, because these titles work on a three-year development cycle, Treyarch actually began designing BLOPS 4 with wall running and double jumping in mind.

With so many switches happening late in production, it means that the maps weren't specifically designed around the classic combat style, which could result in weaker, less focused battlefields overall.
