Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 - 8 Mistakes Activision Have Already Made
1. No Campaign
By far the biggest and most contentious change Treyarch have made for Black Ops 4 is dropping the single-player campaign entirely.
From a pure business perspective, this was seemingly a long time coming, as Activision have always commented on how few players actually finish - or even start - the stories in their games. With that in mind, it's easy to see why they'd want to can it and instead focus on battle royale, which should bring in a much bigger injection of cash.
Still, just because the reasoning makes sense doesn't make the decision to drop the campaign a good one. When talking about Blackout, the devs constantly brought up characters and moments from the franchise which are going to bolster the mode - but the rich mythology they're drawing from is mostly down to the affection fans have for past campaigns.
The single-player might not bring in as much money as the multiplayer, but it's important in building a rich brand identity, one which Activision clearly understands is useful as they're using it to sell their battle royale mode, but one they're also far too eager to push to the side.
