5. Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2
After Modern Warfare, Activision could have been forgiven for insisting on keeping the same model and limiting evolution to fine-tuning, but Black Ops 2 is up there with the most transformative COD games.
Developers Treyarch boldly split the narrative between two time-lines with a branching storyline and multiple possible endings depending on decisions made.
It was also a richer story experience, with better, more complex villains and substantial choices, and while the multiplayer maps weren't the best in the series, it was a great overall package with high-point including the Pick Ten customisation system, the ending sequence of the campaign and more Nuketown.
