Call Of Duty: Every Game Ranked From Worst To Best

1. Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

Call Of Duty Franchise
Activision

Modern Warfare was a watershed moment for Call Of Duty: it might not look as slick or have as many bells and whistles as what would follow (well it didn't until the Remaster), but the game was a triumph of pure entertainment. And it landed with a devastating knock-out blow to its rivals.

The game was also the first to really turn the series into a mega-brand: this was the game that pulled in more fans than any other before it. The multi-player element was as compelling and entertaining as it was devastatingly irresistible - to the point that the campaign would become almost a secondary issue.

But that's not to reduce the impact of the single-player mode: it's still brilliantly entertaining, impressively cinematic and with some huge narrative punches. Yes, it has been bettered, but its impact hasn't.

This was also the point that saw the introduction of the levelling up system, which is arguably one of the most innovative developments ever added to the shooter genre. Everyone does it now, and that's testament to the game's impact overall.
