Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare Review - 6 Ups & 6 Downs

3. "Pay-To-Win" Microtransactions

One of the game's most eye-rolling if totally expected features is the addition of microtransactions by way of Supply Drops, essentially loot boxes which can grant players weapons with marginally boosted stats.

The reality, of course, is that while you can amass keys just from playing the multiplayer to open more drops, you're heavily encouraged to shell out real world money to increase your chance of getting an edge on the competition faster and more easily.

Now, many will argue whether or not the game is in fact "pay-to-win" given that you still need a base level of skill to actually do well in the game, but it's certainly a rather crass business model all the same, coming from the same school of loot box gambling that incredulously makes so many part with their hard-earned cash in games like Overwatch.

While Infinite Warfare does give you more control over the variants you end up with, it's still an utterly cringe-worthy, greedy attempt to gouge players for more cash, and given how easy the fanbase seemingly is to exploit, it's certainly not going away any time soon.
