I already know that the general tone of this article is going to inspire some aggressive reactions, and this entry in particular will no doubt be greeted with a bunch of claims that I need to "git gud", but come on, the skill-based matchmaking system COD adopts absolutely sucks the fun out of every game in this franchise at launch, and Modern Warfare is no different.

The idea is sound, in that you're always playing with people around your own skill level. What that means in practice though is that there's never any real sense of progression, as you're always going to be fighting an uphill battle. Even worse, it might mean you come out the gate swinging with multiple wins at the top of the leaderboard, only to get lumped with far better players that hand your ass to you.

If you know this is happening due to behind-the-scenes calculations it kind of alleviates the pain, but if not you're left wondering why you're getting worse. Better servers could sort this out, as well as a proper ranked mode that's fairer.
