Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare - 9 Reasons It's The Best COD In Years

Let's not beat around the bush: Modern conflicts are the best setting for a Call of Duty.

Yes, World Wars have iconic weaponry and settings, but being framed around established firearms and equipment always feels limiting in the grand scheme of things. There's only so many times you can hear the "shing" or an M1 Garand or the clatter of a Thompson machine gun before it starts to feel like you're replaying the same core experience over and over.

In a more Modern context though - itself nebulously placed anywhere across the 2000s to now, there's far more scope for all sorts of alternate history setups and fictionalisations, not to mention weapons and gear is far more varied.

Back to what Call of Duty is as an entertainment juggernaut, and while earlier CODs attempted World War settings, it's Modern Warfare that always mattered most.

COD 1 through 3 always felt like they were copying Medal of Honor to a fault, whereas this modern context and iconography just IS Call of Duty.
