Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare - 9 Reasons It's The Best COD In Years
9. It Finally Knows WTF It Is
When was the last time you felt any degree of confidence in Call of Duty?
Activision's rotation of studios - Infinity Ward, Treyarch and Sledgehammer on lead duties, with High Moon, Beenox and Raven providing support and multiplayer - allows for COD to maintain its annual release schedule, but somewhere in there was an attempt to compete with Titanfall and Halo.
My theory was always that after Vince Zampella and Jason West left Infinity Ward to make Titanfall with EA, Activision expected a rush on sci-fi shooters. These two were instrumental in the first Modern Warfare dominating entertainment, after all.
Naturally that didn't happen. And with Titanfall not catching on and Halo fizzling out with Halo 5's sales being notably down, it left Call of Duty fighting a war with no opposition.
Advanced Warfare, Black Ops 3, Infinite Warfare - we saw Activision attempt a World War 2 revival with 2017's COD: WWII, but it felt like a calculated response to 2016's Battlefield 1.
Now, with Battlefield floundering after BFV and Call of Duty at an impasse, Activision have gone back to the one time period and game feel they should've never abandoned: Modern Warfare.
