Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare - 9 Reasons It's The Best COD In Years

7. Borrowing Enough Elements From The Competition

There was a worry going into Modern Warfare that its "copycat" approach to new mechanics would end up like a Jack of all trades, and master of none.

Ground War? A lesser version of Battlefield. Being able to mount on cover in smaller maps? Rainbow Six: Siege-lite. Sliding across the ground? That's just Titanfall/Apex Legends without being over the top enough.

Thankfully, because Modern Warfare's core gameplay is so solid; its throughline feel very much being Call of Duty, these additions feel like addendums to what you came for in the first place. They expand your options, rather than define them.

Mounting adds to the tactile elements of playing the angles game; it minimises recoil but leaves you a sitting duck. Sliding is super handy for entering, and Ground War - though it very much is Battlefield-inspired - still "works" because it all plays so well.

Instead of dipping its toes in a number of pools, Modern Warfare 2019 confidently wades in and invites you to join.
