2. Gun Runner

Now, I know there's going to be a bunch of people out there who absolutely disagree with Gun Runner being so high on this list. At the moment it's one of the most divisive maps included in the base game, being one of the smaller, more compact environments that can admittedly lead to some frustrating moments.

However, it's only bad if you're playing it like an older Call of Duty map. Running around is guaranteed to get you killed, as there'll always be someone in one of the buildings waiting with an SMG or shotgun. Likewise, bolting down either side of the perimeter makes you easy pickings for snipers hanging back.

Especially in a mode like Headquarters, being hunkered down in a claustrophobic position can work wonders though. Having to defend a building brings with it a sense of intensity COD has lacked for a while now, as securing doors and trying to cover every possible angle promotes smart play.

There's also a unique flow to the map as well, as instead of climbing to higher ground, parts of the environment allow you to slip underground and downstairs, which is a small change that serves to give Gun Runner its distinct identity.
