Call Of Duty: Ranking Every Game Mode From Worst To Best

18. Free For All

Call Of Duty Modes
Activision

In theory, Free For All should be the most accessible of all game modes, as players have no instructions but to kill anybody they see without teams or objectives to distract them. In reality, almost every game is a chaotic mess because of the series' often criticised spawn system, which will frequently spawn players directly behind their opponents.

It is nevertheless a good way to learn a new game's maps, as exploration is encouraged by the fact that staying in one place is usually a sure-fire way to earn a quick demise. Even a quick breather to plan the next move, reload or call in a scorestreak is all another player can need, particularly on the smaller maps that are most frequently voted for in lobbies.

Distance kills can be all but nonexistent as up-close SMG firefights dominate proceedings, whilst radars can make all the difference as the identification of opponent's locations allows them to be systematically ambushed or picked off in quick succession. Aside from that the mode doesn't have a huge tactical element, as quick reactions will win out nine times out of ten (particularly in hardcore).

Though some players will play it exclusively, Free For All's appeal is limited. Still, it will be a feature of every game, given just how established it has become.
