Call Of Duty: Ranking Every Game Mode From Worst To Best
10. War (III & WAW)/Momentum
The original bearer of the War name has now been missing in action for over a decade, its brief reappearance in another guise (with a few changes) as Momentum in Advanced Warfare notwithstanding. This is almost criminal given how much of a delight it was to play.
Two teams are initially tasked with capturing a neutral zone in the middle of the map, after which they are tasked with pressing on two additional points that are closer to the opposition's spawn in turn.
Successful attacks that are not built upon can lead to quick pushbacks, whilst long stalemates can occur when two teams are evenly-matched and focused on the objective. In such scenarios, any territorial gains feel like huge accomplishments and the sudden death decider over a singular point becomes a ruthless affair.
Large-scale battles have never been Call of Duty's forte, however, and the impact of the mode is limited by the fact that like almost every other outside of Ground War, it limits skirmishes to 6 on 6 (9 on 9 in World At War's hardcore variant) as opposed to 16 on 16, 32 on 32 or even higher volume of players that can make similar game modes in other franchises deliver truly epic battles time and time again.
