Co-op campaigns really became a thing with the release of Halo 3 and evolved with Left4Dead, Gears of War 2 and Portal 2 over the years. The ability to play co-op via online play was a revolution and unleashed the campaign mode of various games into something far better, especially those titles that offered 4 player action.

Black Ops III and World at War were notable for their use of co-op campaigns but the Modern Warfare titles focused on Spec Ops modes and other games used Zombies or Extinction for their co-op action.

The 'band of brothers' nature of most WWII films, TV shows and campaigns means the potential co-op gameplay - be it competitive and/or friendly - with this new Call of Duty is immense. Having a properly diverse squad of soldiers such as infantry, medic, sniper and scout is nothing new, but could make Call of Duty reach dizzy new heights and bring back an element long missed by fans.
