Crash Bandicoot 4: 10 Hardest Levels Ranked
7. Crash Landed
So I've got good news, bad news, and worse news about Crash Landed - the good news is that this level opens with a cute callback to Crash Bandicoot 2's Snow Go, utilizing the exact same box placement and physics as the opening to that classic level. Of course, this gives away the bad news - there are ice physics.
Oh, and the worse news is that there's also an animal-riding section that controls like hot garbage.
The baby Shnurgle, while adorable, does not have the same smooth controls as other animal-riding segments in the classic games. What used to be tight, intuitive autoscrolling animal levels have "upgraded" to temperamental, way-too-sensitive sections that make it unnecessarily hard to hit stacks of boxes.
One small tap of your control stick sends you much farther in that direction than you're probably used to, which would be hard enough on its own but is made even worse by spouting fire, unfair box placement, and the aforementioned ice physics.
Speaking of ice physics, this level also has a colored gem route made almost entirely of this mechanic. The worst part of this section is easily the stampeding Shnurgle section, as you're given so little time and space to jump over the cavalcade of giant watermelon-colored aliens while also hitting boxes situated above their path.
To this day, I haven't been able to pass this section without an Aku Aku mask, and that just isn't fair.
Thank goodness that the visuals are so beautiful, else this level may have ranked a lot higher.
