Crash Bandicoot: Ranking Every Game From Worst To Best

First of all, can we just appreciate the succinct beauty of that subheading? It's a pun that works on so many levels, which makes it even more unfortunate that the game itself isn't firing on all cylinders.

That's not to say that it didn't deliver a fantastic experience. Its sentimentally fuelled delivery delivers a game that matches the quality of the originals.

There are some brilliant new additions that are synonymous with fanfare. The return of Tawna from the very first game, packaged with an interesting new twist, certainly tickles the nostalgia bone. The reiteration of the secret bonus stages from - yet again - the initial Crash game also makes a respectable appearance, but this is all relative to the bigger issue at play.

The fundamental flaw with Crash 4 is that it feels like it's trying far too hard to incorporate a million distinct elements, with an overbearing maintenance on nostalgia, as opposed to just being its own self-contained experience.

The novelty of playing as Dingodile sounds incredible, until you undergo it. The same probelm plagues the Cortex scenarios too, as by the time you play as him, the game is practically over.

Maybe this is a rare instance where DLC may have actually benefitted a game, rather than destroyed it.
