Crash Bandicoot: Ranking Every N. Sane Trilogy Boss Battle

8. Neo Cortex - Warped

Crash Bandicoot Sane Trilogy Cortex
Activision

Again, Cortex hits the list with another lowball entry, but he's still got one more chance...

This boss battle is being judged slightly harshly under the weight of expectation. Warped easily has the best selection of bosses in the N Sane Trilogy, but Cortex is definitely not the jewel in the crown. Having crafted such fun and engaging boss battles in most of the warp rooms prior, Cortex's was a bit of a slump.

The problem most likely comes from interaction. While it was nice to see Aku Aku and Uka Uka fighting, thus joining some of the story dots, most of this boss battle is spent trying to dodge them. It does rack up some points in that the masks pose a different threat in each of the three rounds, but this is undermined by Cortex's repetitiveness.

Technology has always been a key part of Cortex's arsenal, but with the masks being so creative, seeing Cortex recycle the laser gun and hoverboard from the first game was slightly disappointing. The worst part though was that he didn't have a traditional hitbox, but instead needed to be shoved down a hole with the fiddly spin controls. An N Sanely annoying end.
