Crash Team Racing PS1: Ranking EVERY Racer From Worst To Best
4. Crash Bandicoot
It's Crash Bandicoot... in a flipping kart racer!
With Nitro Fueled remaking Crash Team Racing but also adding in bits of Nitro Kart and Tag Team Racing, the lustre of Crash himself has worn off slightly. With the remake, Crash racers are nothing new, so while he'll remain a popular pick, the charm and surprise won't quite be there.
The fact that the game exists at all is something special definitely, but the option to play as Crash was massive in 1999; now it feels like one of the dull picks. Nitro Fueled has nothing to do with Crash settling for fourth though, there was just a lot of stiff competition ousting him from the medal places.
No place on the podium is ironic, considering the plethora of crazy dance moves he likely had saved up for his time in the spotlight.
Crash Team Racing wasn't even initially designed as a Crash game, but a standard racer which had Crash added after some meetings with Sony. It was a massive, genre busting deal at the time, and signified Crash's importance as a character. He was a massively popular pick, and rightly so.
