5. Missions Seem Very Linear
The Deus Ex comparison feels by far the most fitting of GamePressure’s three titles stacked up against Cyberpunk. In contrast with GTA and Borderlands, its also the one which fell shortest in its ambition. It had one feature Cyberpunk doesn’t seem to, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
Cyberpunk have emphasised that you can play your own way, and while some of that is dissected later in terms of small scale choice, larger choice seems to be more lacking.
Adam Jensen could choose his path of attack, depending on a variety of factors. Your own strengths, imagination, and (if you were into the game enough) narrative of the character. Would your Jensen blast his way into a compound, or sneak through various secret tunnels?
Cyberpunk though, while it does offer the three different playstyles, seems so far to be very linear. Each mission or skirmish seems to have a set optimal pathway, depending on said playstyle.
Over at GamePressure, Draug argues this is a good thing, allowing the devs to make for more interesting, scripted levels rather than Deus Ex’s open ended messes. Still, it’s something you should probably know before jumping in with both feet.
